Olivet Nazarene Sweeps Women's Outdoor T&F Weekly Honors Behind Carter, Schoonmaker

CHICAGO --- Strong performances from both Kiara Carter (Chicago, Ill.) and Sarah Schoonmaker (Saint John, Ind.) during the seven-day period ending April 23 have enabled Olivet Nazarene University to sweep the latest set of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced on Thursday.

Carter won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at ONU's own Tiger Open on Saturday to capture CCAC Track Athlete of the Week recognition.  The sophomore ran a time of 12.38 seconds in the former event to defeat 17 other challengers.  The effort was the fifth-fastest time in school history.

Carter followed that up with the sixth-best time in Olivet Nazarene history when she won the 200-meter dash in 25.08 seconds, besting 23 other finishers.

Schoonmaker was selected as the CCAC Field Athlete of the Week after recording a pair of Top 5 finishes in the discus and shot put events at the Tiger Open.  She defeated 16 other individuals to win the discus competition with a throw of 138 feet, 3 inches.

In the shot put, Schoonmaker placed fourth among 20 individuals covering a distance of 37 feet, 9.25 inches.  The freshman also placed eighth out of 19 in the hammer throw with a toss of 134 feet, 11 inches.
