Two Wins For SXU, JU Land Weekly Women's Soccer Honors For Diaz, Fernandez

CHICAGO --- Playing key roles in a pair of conference victories during the seven-day period ending Oct. 22, Saint Xavier University's Esmeralda Diaz (Chicago, Ill.) and Judson University's Eva Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) have both been recognized as Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Diaz had a big week en route to CCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.  The junior forward produced a hat trick and two assists in Saint Xavier's two wins to improve to 7-3-3 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play.

Diaz's three-goal performance – including the game-winner – came on Saturday in the Cougars' 4-2 win over Indiana University South Bend.  Four days earlier, she was credited with two assists in SXU's 6-1 triumph over Governors State University.

Eva Fernandez did not allow a goal over her two games to land CCAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.  The freshman goalkeeper stopped eight shots in Judson's 3-0 victory over Holy Cross College last Tuesday and did one save better (nine total) in the Eagles' 3-0 win against Indiana University Northwest on Saturday.

The two wins enabled Judson to get over the .500 mark in league play (4-3-2), while improving to 5-6-3 overall.

Other Offensive Nominees: Kara Amidon (Trinity Christian), Brooke Clements (Viterbo), Paolo Macias (Roosevelt), Josett Perez (Judson).

Other Defensive Nominees: Marissa Anderson (Olivet Nazarene), Michelle Urribarri (Trinity Christian).
