Pair of Double-Doubles Propels IUSB's Maddie Gard To Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

CHICAGO --- Not to be outdone by her twin sister Katie Gard, last week's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Maddie Gard (Oak Creek, Wis.) gained the recognition for the seven-day period ending Feb. 4, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Back-to-back double-doubles with a pair of 20-plus point performances earned the fifth-year guard the honor in a week in which the NAIA No. 19-ranked Titans kept their season record perfect at 22-0 overall and 14-0 in league contests with two more wins.  Gard finished the week averaging 23.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest, while converting on 56.7 percent of her shots from the field (17-of-30).

She opened the week with 21 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in an 83-66 victory over University of St. Francis (Ill.) last Wednesday, where she made 9 of her 13 shots from the field (69.2 pct.).  She then hit for 26 points (10 in the fourth quarter) to go along with 11 rebounds in Saturday's 77-67 win over second-place Governors State University.

For the season, Gard ranks second in the league in steals (47), fourth in points per game (16.9) and tenth in both field goal (.507) and free throw percentage (.760).

Other Nominees: Grace Adams (Holy Cross), Jessica Carrothers (Indiana Northwest), Angelique Cowan (Governors State), Eleanor Harris (Saint Xavier), Tykara Harrison (St. Francis), Destiny Hughes (Calumet St. Joseph), Easton Kimball (Judson), Marie Outlay (Roosevelt), Khendel Rolison (Olivet Nazarene).
