ONU's Landis, USF's Boyle Earn Latest Round of Weekly Softball Recognition

CHICAGO --- A scorching .786 batting average from Olivet Nazarene University's Margaret Landis (Beecher, Ill.) and throwing shutout ball by University of St. Francis' Emily Boyle (Union Grove, Wis.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for the seven-day period ending April 21, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Landis' average was amassed by authoring a trio of three-hit games among her four total played.  In the other contest, she went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.  All told, the senior outfielder went 11-for-14 with a double and a triple, scored eight runs and produced four RBIs.

Landis was a perfect 6-for-6 with two runs batted in in the Tigers' doubleheader sweep of Judson University last Monday.  She then went 5-for-8 with three runs scored and another three batted in on Saturday in a sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Olivet Nazarene's perfect 4-0 record evened its league mark out at 6-6 and put the Tigers at 11-21 overall.

Boyle, meanwhile, did not allow a run in either of her two starts on the week.  She went the first four innings in a 2-0 win over Indiana University South Bend last Monday and tossed a complete-game shutout of St. Ambrose University on Saturday.

In the South Bend contest, Boyle allowed just one hit and a walk with four strikeouts.  Against St. Ambrose, she scattered four hits, while striking out seven against four walks.

For the two games combined, the freshman went 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average and 11 strikeouts opposite five hits and five walks over 11 innings.

St. Francis went 3-1 on the week and is tied with Roosevelt University for first place in the league standings.  The Saints are 24-12 overall and 10-4 in the CCAC.
