JU's Jimenez, IUSB's Hamilton Earn Weekly Softball Distinction

CHICAGO --- A robust .625 batting average from Judson University's Amelia Jimenez (Darien, Ill.) and a pair of shutouts registered by Indiana University South Bend's Savannah Hamilton have earned the duo Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week accord, respectively, for the seven-day period ending April 7, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Jimenez went 5-for-8 in a split decision with St. Ambrose University on Saturday.  Four of her five hits went for doubles leading to a 1.125 slugging percentage and she also totaled five runs batted in.

The senior utility player opened the two-game series by going 3-for-4 with all three hits being doubles in a 9-4 setback.  She also drove in two runs and scored once in that contest.  That was followed by a 2-for-4, 4-RBI effort in an 8-6 Game 2 victory.

Judson is now 1-3 on the season in conference play and 4-20 overall following its 1-1 week.

Hamilton tossed 14 innings of shutout softball over her two games pitched.  She struck out 12 batters against five walks in that time, while yielding just six hits.

The freshman blanked league leader Saint Xavier University 2-0 on Friday, where she struck out seven batters and allowed both four hits and four walks.  On Saturday, she was even stingier in a 6-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph.  There, she gave up just two hits and one walk, while striking out five batters.

Indiana South Bend's 3-1 week enabled the Titans to even out their league record at 3-3, while improving to 8-21 overall.
