SAU's Haag, USF's Manning Earn Softball Weekly Accord

CHICAGO --- Becca Haag's (Muscatine, Iowa) .529 batting average for St. Ambrose University and Kiersten Manning (Bloomington, Ill.) claiming two of University of St. Francis' three victories in the circle during the seven-day period ending March 17 have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Haag averaged 1.5 hits and one extra-base hit per contest over her six games played last week.  She hit safely in all but one of those contests, finishing with nine hits in 17 at-bats with four runs scored, five doubles, one triple and six runs batted in.  The six extra-base hits led to a .941 slugging percentage.

The freshman third baseman authored three multi-hit games during the week topped by her 3-for-4, 2-RBI game in a 9-6 loss to Grand View University (Iowa) last Wednesday.  She also posted two hits in a 6-3 win over Augustana College last Monday and a pair of doubles and two runs batted in in a 5-4 setback to University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.

St. Ambrose went 2-4 on the week and is 11-13 on the season.

Both of Manning's wins were complete-game efforts with no less than ten strikeouts in either outing.  She also allowed just two earned runs over her 13 innings of work, resulting in a 1.08 earned run average.

The junior hurler gained her fourth shutout of the season on Friday when she blanked Cornerstone University (Mich.) on four hits.  In that game, she struck out ten batters against one walk in the circle, while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run and two runs batted in.

One day later, Manning went all eight innings in a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Siena Heights University (Mich.), notching 11 strikeouts in the process.

St. Francis went 3-1 on the week and is 12-8 on the season.
