ONU's Giuliano, SAU's Saloninas Hit "A" Marks, Gain Weekly Accord

CHICAGO --- Hitting "A" standard marks in each of their events during the seven-day period between Jan. 16-22 have earned Olivet Nazarene University's Vince Giuliano (Concord, Mich.) and St. Ambrose University's Mick Saloninas (Downers Grove, Ill.) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week accord, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Giuliano met the standard in three separate events at the Indiana Tech Invite on Friday highlighted by his title in the 200-meter dash to earn the CCAC Track recognition.  In that event, he bested 64 others in a time of 21.74 seconds, the only individual to clock in under 22 seconds.

The junior also claimed a pair of runner-up finishes in the 60-meter dash and as part of the 4x400-meter relay team.  In a field of 60 competitors in the former event, Giuliano needed just 6.91 seconds to cover the distance.  In the relay, his group ran a 3:23.42, coming in ahead of eight other teams.

Saloninas garnered the CCAC weekly field honor by winning the shot put event at SAU's own Bumble Rumble on Saturday.  The senior's best throw covered 54 feet to defeat the rest of the 25-person field.

The effort represents the second time this year that Saloninas has hit the "A" mark.  Earlier this winter, he recorded a distance of 55 feet, 9.75 inches, which is the top throw in the CCAC and the fifth-best mark in the NAIA this season.
