TCC's Christodoulou, GSU's Gonzalez Capture Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

CHICAGO --- Trinity Christian College's Giorgos Christodoulou (Frennaros, Cyprus) has claimed his second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for 2023, while Governors State University's John Gonzalez (Medallin, Columbia) has garnered CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Christodoulou recorded his fifth shutout of the season Saturday in a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross College.  The junior goalkeeper stopped the only shot on goal by the Saints on the day.

Christodoulou ranks second in the league with his five clean sheets, while sitting fourth in goals-against average at 1.23.

The win for the Trolls came in their only match of the week.  They are now 7-5-3 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play.

Gonzalez, meanwhile, accounted for all three goals in Governors State's 3-1 conference victory over Roosevelt University on Saturday.  The junior defender had two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on the other tally in the match.

The Jaguars (6-8-1) also defeated Saint Xavier University on Wednesday to extend their unbeaten streak to six matches (5-0-1) and move into second place in the league standings with their 6-2-1 CCAC record.

Other Offensive Nominees: Pablo Rubio Guerra (St. Francis), Nicolas Lopez (Viterbo), Fernando Rosales (Trinity Christian).
