Game-Winning Goals Land Weekly Men's Soccer Honors For SAU's Newton, ONU's Beckman

CHICAGO --- Scoring game-winning goals during the seven-day period ending Oct. 8, St. Ambrose University's Hayden Newton (Dexter, Mich.) and Olivet Nazarene University's Carter Beckman (Crown Point, Ind.) have been recognized as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Newton secured CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord after the junior forward delivered his game-winning score with just ten seconds remaining in St. Ambrose's 3-2 victory over Holy Cross College on Saturday.

The Fighting Bees also defeated Indiana University Northwest on Wednesday last week to improve to 3-4-2 overall and 3-2 against league competition.

Beckman, the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week, not only helped limit the opposition to one goal over two matches last week, but came off the bench to play a key role in two of the team's three goals himself.

The freshman defender was the architect of the Tigers' only goal in a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross College on Wednesday when he stole the ball and laid a crossing to a teammate for an easy header.  He then opened Saturday's 2-0 win over Roosevelt University with the first goal of his collegiate career, which proved to be the game-winner.

The four-point week enabled Olivet Nazarene to keep its lock on first place in the league standings.  The Tigers are now 8-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in CCAC play.

Other Offensive Nominees: Nicolas Lopez (Viterbo), Jaedan Aguilera (Saint Xavier), John Gonzalez (Governors State), Martin Markovic (Trinity Christian), Martin Wainstein (Judson).

Other Defensive Nominees: Giorgos Christodoulou (Trinity Christian), Andres Zamora (Saint Xavier), Joe Casebolt (St. Ambrose).
