Zamora, Aguilera Help Saint Xavier Sweep Men's Soccer Weekly Accolades

CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University has claimed a sweep of the latest set of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer player of the week awards, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.  Andres Zamora (Cicero, Ill.) was named the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2023, while teammate Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill.) was recognized as the top offensive performer.

Zamora earned both of Saint Xavier's wins in goal during the seven-day period between Sept. 25-Oct. 1, including a 1-0 shutout of Roosevelt University last Tuesday.  In that match, the senior recorded four stops.

Zamora was also in goal when the Cougars took the lead in their eventual 9-1 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.  He played the first 9:34 of the contest, but did not have any shots come his way.

For the two games combined, Zamora stopped a total of four shots over the course of 99-plus minutes.

Aguilera had a big offensive week, providing the only goal – his first of the season – in the victory against Roosevelt.  The junior midfielder then delivered a hat trick in just over ten minutes of play on Saturday against Calumet St. Joseph.

Saint Xavier boosted its overall record up to 5-3-4 as well as its conference mark to 3-2 with the two wins.

Other Offensive Nominees: Pablo Rubio Guerra (St. Francis), Alfie Gyurkovits (Viterbo), Juan Perez (Holy Cross), Sergio Reyes (Calumet St. Joseph).

Other Defensive Nominees: Marcol Salom Chandre (Governors State), Elias Nonnenmann (Olivet Nazarene).
