IUSB's Barney Hits The High-Five Mark On Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

CHICAGO --- Indiana University South Bend's Dejon Barney (South Bend, Ind.) hit the high-five mark with his fifth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for 2023-24 on Tuesday morning when the league office announced the honor.  It was also his fourth selection in the last five weeks.

None of his previous acts, however, topped last week's effort.  Barney missed just five shots from the field in 27 attempts for an .815 accuracy mark during the seven-day period ending Feb. 11 leading to a 25.5 scoring average.  The senior forward also produced a pair of double-doubles courtesy of his 10.5 rebounds per contest.

Barney went 9-for-11 for 19 points with ten rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in a 71-53 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph last Wednesday.  That was followed by his 32-point, 11-rebound game against St. Ambrose University, a 91-71 victory on Saturday, where he went 13-of-16 from the field and 6-of-7 at the foul line.

Performances like those two contests enabled Barney to maintain his elite standing in the league, where he ranks first in rebounding (10.1 rpg), second in blocks (36), third in field goal percentage (.596) and fourth in scoring (18.9 ppg).

Winners of six straight games, Indiana South Bend is 18-6 overall and 13-3 in league play, which puts the Titans in second place.

Other Nominees: Rahmel Davis (St. Francis), Dannie Smith (Indiana Northwest), Tyrell Isom (Governors State), Anterrious Rhyan (Judson), Tyler Schmidt (Olivet Nazarene), David Swedura (Roosevelt), Colby Wiggins (Calumet St. Joseph).
