SXU's Johnson Three-Peats As Men's Basketball Player of the Week

CHICAGO --- Make it three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards in a row for Saint Xavier University's Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb.) as the senior guard continued his 20-plus point scoring average for the seven-day period ending Dec. 24.  The league office made the announcement on Tuesday.

Johnson shot at a torrid 70.8 percent clip from the field and averaged 22.0 points per game in a pair of wins over Missouri Baptist University (90-71) last Tuesday and University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (106-79) on Wednesday.  Those numbers and others kept him ranked among the elite players in the league.

Johnson tops the conference in scoring (23.2 ppg), while ranking third in both field goal percentage (.634) and three-point accuracy (.489) and fourth in both rebounding (7.3 rpg) and free-throw shooting (.855).

Johnson hit for 23 points and shot .692 from the field in the Missouri Baptist win.  He also secured five rebounds, four assists and one block in the same game.  One day later, he totaled 21 points on .727 shooting with four rebounds, five assists and one steal.

Winners of six games in a row, Saint Xavier is 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league action.

Other Nominees: Will Spriggs (St. Ambrose), Danny Staskunas (Trinity Christian), Cedric Johnson (Saint Xavier).
