Saint Xavier's Johnson Remains Hot In Earning Second Straight Men's Basketball Weekly Honor

CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University's Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb.) remained red hot en route to gaining his second consecutive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award, which the league office announced on Tuesday.

One week after averaging 26.5 points per game and shooting 56.3 percent from the field, Johnson was even better during the seven-day stretch from Dec. 11-17, scoring at a 28.5 points-per-game clip, while shooting .647 from the field (22-of-34) and .909 from the foul line (10-of-11) in a pair of wins.

The senior guard just missed averaging a double-double for the week with his 9.0 rebounds per game to go along with 3.5 assists per contest.

Johnson authored a season-high 30 points and totaled 11 rebounds and five assists in the Cougars' 77-67 win opposite Goshen College last Tuesday.  Then, on Saturday, he shot .786 from the field (11-of-14) on his way to a 27-point, seven-rebound, two-assist game in a 77-68 league win versus Indiana University Northwest.

Johnson ranks among the top five players in the league in no less than five categories highlighted by his top billing in scoring (23.5 ppg).  He also ranks second in field goal percentage (.623), fourth in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and free-throw shooting (.837) and fifth in three-point accuracy (.463).

The two wins on the week boosted Saint Xavier's records to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in league contests.

Other Nominees: Ignacio Dacunda (St. Ambrose), Dannie Smith (Indiana Northwest), Javaris Wiggins (Judson).
