Big Scoring Week For SXU's Johnson Leads To Men's Basketball Accolades

CHICAGO --- A pair of 20-plus point scoring efforts during the seven-day period ending Dec. 10 has earned Saint Xavier University's Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb.) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Johnson averaged 26.5 points on 56.3 percent shooting in a pair of wins for the Cougars last week.  In those two contests, the senior guard also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals.

Johnson put up a season-high 29 points on 61.1 percent shooting (11-of-18) to go along with four rebounds in an 81-69 victory over Viterbo University (Wis.) last Wednesday.  He then authored a double-double on Saturday when he totaled 24 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in an 83-72 nod over Trinity Christian College.

Johnson ranks second in the league in scoring (22.3 ppg) and tied for fifth in rebounding (6.3 rpg).

The two wins on the week put the Cougars at 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference affairs.
