SAU's Marchizza, USF's Maliska Gain Weekly Baseball Accolades

CHICAGO --- St. Ambrose University's Sergio Marchizza (Chatham, Ill.) has claimed his second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor, while University of St. Francis' Nate Maliska (Chicago, Ill.) has earned his first CCAC Player of the Week accord, the league office announced on Wednesday.  The awards recognize the two individuals for their performances during the week ending April 7.

Marchizza recorded his second shutout of the season in a 7-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday.  In the seven-inning victory, the junior struck out eight batters against only one walk, while scattering three hits.

St. Ambrose went 2-0 on the week and is 14-11 overall.  In league play, the Fighting Bees sit tied for second place at 8-4.

Maliska, meanwhile, helped keep St. Francis atop the league standings at 14-4 and 16-14 overall with his .600 batting average during the Saints' 4-0 week.

The sophomore first baseman recorded multiple hits in each of the four contests highlighted by his 3-for-4 game in a 12-7 win over Judson University to wrap up the four-game series.  He also drove in at least one run in each of the four contests topped by his three-RBI effort in a 20-3 Game 1 victory on Saturday.

For the four games combined, Maliska went 9-for-15 with eight runs batted in and another seven runs scored.
