SXU's Stukenberg, JU's Nery Pick Up Weekly Baseball Honors

CHICAGO --- A key offensive weapon for Saint Xavier University in its 5-1 first week of league play, Troy Stukenberg (La Grange, Ill.) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week.  On the pitching ledger, Judson University's Adrian Nery (Barrington, Ill.)  captured the same recognition for the seven-day period ending March 17.  The league office made both announcements on Tuesday.

Stukenberg put up monster numbers in his six contests, averaging two hits and better than two runs batted in last week leading to .571 batting, .640 on-base and 1.190 slugging percentages.  The freshman infielder totaled 12 hits and 13 RBIs over the seven days with two doubles, one triple and three home runs.

Stukenberg hit safely in all six games with four being of the multi-hit variety.  His biggest output came in the second game of a doubleheader against University of St. Francis last Tuesday, where he went 3-for-4 with a triple, two home runs, four runs scored and five driven in.

He also had another three hits and three more RBIs in Game 2 of a twinbill versus Indiana University South Bend on Friday.  One day later, Stukenberg put up two hits in each of two games with five more runs batted in leading to a four-game sweep of the Titans over the weekend.

Saint Xavier's 5-1 start to the conference season put the Cougars in first place by one game.  They are 12-11 overall.

Nery also had a big game against Indiana South Bend, posting his first shutout of the season en route to his honor.  He allowed just two hits in the seven-inning contest, striking out seven and walking only one in the 4-0 victory last Tuesday.

The junior dropped his other decision – a 5-2 contest to Defiance College (Ohio) – on Sunday with only two of the runs allowed being earned, leading to a 1.35 earned run average for the week.  He also struck out another seven batters in that game.

Judson went 3-3 on the week and is 6-14 overall.
