SXU's Massingale, USF's Daly Garner Baseball Weekly Recognition

CHICAGO --- A trio of multi-hit games by Saint Xavier University's Justin Massingale (Carbondale, Ill.) and a record-setting mound performance by University of St. Francis' Ryan Daly (Plainfield, Ill.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for the seven-day period ending March 2.  The league office made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Massingale hit safely in all four games in which he appeared in leading the Cougars to a 3-1 series victory over College of the Ozarks (Mo.) over the weekend.  He batted .538 (7-for-13) with three home runs, five runs batted in and another five scored.  He also had a .700 on-base percentage courtesy of seven walks.

The highlight of the series for the junior utility player was his two-home run, three-RBI game in a 10-4 victory on Friday.  He also homered in the series finale on Saturday leading to his 1.231 slugging percentage for the week.

SXU is 7-7 on the season.

Daly knocked off NAIA No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College 4-3 with a 14-strikeout gem on Saturday.  The mark was a school record for a seven-inning game.

The junior hurler struck out multiple batters in six of the innings, including retiring the side in the last inning on K's.  He allowed five hits and two walks in the complete-game effort.

The Saints are 2-7 on the campaign after going 1-2 last week.
