
Holy Cross Three-Peats In Women's Tennis
NOTRE DAME, Ind. ---Using a 5-0 victory over No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University, top-seeded Holy Cross College claimed its third consecutive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament title on Friday afternoon.
Victoria Savvides, Leah Gonzales-Edwards and Sofia Carvalho Rocha each earned a pair of wins on the day to seal the crown for the Saints (9-5). Savvides and Gonzales-Edwards first teamed up for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Gonzales-Edwards went on to not yield a game at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Savvides notched a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the top spot.
Carvalho Rocha gained her first win paired with Nicole Martinez at No. 2 doubles in a 6-1 contest. She also added a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
Holy Cross' other wins in the match were a 6-0 win by the No. 3 doubles team of Maren Woelfer and Emery Porter and a 6-2, 6-0 victory by Jamison Geoffreys at No. 2 singles.
Holy Cross, the league's regular-season champ, as well, now advances to the NAIA National Championships May 13-17 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
