
IUN's Carrothers, SXU's Harris Continue Their Weekly Awards-Filled Seasons
CHICAGO --- Indiana University Northwest's Jessica Carrothers (Highland, Ind.) and Saint Xavier University's Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill.) continued their awards-filled seasons by earning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week accord yet again, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Carrothers gained her fourth CCAC Offensive Player of the Week award, while Harris collected her third Defensive Player of the Week honor for their performances during the seven-day period ending Jan. 19.
Carrothers had a big week across the board with her averages of 29.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. She also shot 56.8 percent from the field (25-of-44) and 90 percent at the foul line (9-of-10).
The junior guard opened the hot week with 32 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor (70 pct.) to go along with four rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block in a 71-62 victory against Viterbo University last Wednesday. She followed that up with a double-double (27 points, 11 rebounds), five assists, three steals and one block on Saturday in a 68-65 edging of Indiana University South Bend.
Winners of four games in a row, Indiana Northwest is 14-4 overall and 7-3 in league action.
Despite Saint Xavier suffering a pair of defeats, Harris was another menace in a week that saw her average 8.0 defensive rebounds (10.0 overall), 3.0 blocks and 3.0 rebounds per game. She also notched a double-double and averaged 12.0 points per contest.
The double-double feat came in an 84-80 loss to Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday, where the junior center posted 16 points, 12 rebounds (all on the defensive end), five blocks, two steals and one assist. On Wednesday, she produced eight points, eight rebounds (four defensive), one steal and one block in a 73-63 setback to University of St. Francis (Ill.).
Saint Xavier is 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the league.
