TCC's Halmon, SXU's Strand Capture Softball Weekly Accolades For Second Time

CHICAGO --- Trinity Christian College's Myleigh Halmon (Plainfield, Ill.) and Saint Xavier University's Lily Strand (Evergreen Park, Ill.) each collected their second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball weekly honor of the season, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Halmon was named the CCAC Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks after batting .600 and doubling that mark on the slugging-percentage side (1.200).  Of her six hits in ten at-bats, four went for extra bases (3 doubles, 1 home run).  She also drove in eight runs, scored another six, walked twice and stole three bases.

The highlight of the senior utility player's week came in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.  In that 9-8 victory over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (ind.), Halmon went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and another five driven in.  In the nightcap, a 7-4 loss, she was 1-for-3.

Halmon provided three more runs batted in on Friday when she went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in a 14-0 decision over Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) on Friday.

Trinity Christian went 3-1 on the week to improve to 7-13 overall.

Lily Strand, meanwhile, claimed her second straight CCAC Pitcher of the Week award after leading Saint Xavier to a 6-1 upset victory over NAIA No. 22-ranked University of Mobile (Ala.) last Tuesday.  The sophomore hurler went the distance in the contest, allowing eight hits and two walks, while striking out four batters.

Saint Xavier went 1-1 on the week to improve to 14-5 on the season.
