Saint Xavier Sweeps Week 3 Softball Honors

CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University has collected a sweep of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly softball honors courtesy of the play of Aubrey Wroble (Crown Point, Ind.) and Lily Strand (Evergreen Park, Ill.) during the seven-day period ending March 9.  The league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

Wroble hit safely in each of the team's five games last week to earn CCAC Player of the Week accord.  She finished the stretch of games with a robust .647 batting average, going 11-for-17 with three runs batted in and four stolen bases.  She also scored five times.

After collecting one hit in each end of a doubleheader split with Georgia Gwinnett College last Thursday, the sophomore infielder went a combined 9-for-11 (.818) over her last three games.  She started with a perfect 4-for-4 game in an 8-0 victory over University of Houston-Victoria on Friday before adding a 3-for-4 effort in a 6-4 win over Brenau University (Ga.) on Saturday.  Wroble also went 2-for-3 in an 18-3 decision over Point University (Ga.) in a second game on Saturday.

Strand provided two of the team's four wins in the circle, both of which were shutouts, to gain CCAC Pitcher of the Week recognition.  She allowed just seven hits over her 13 innings of work with 12 strikeouts against three walks.

The sophomore struck out seven batters, while scattering three hits in a tight 1-0 win over Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday.  One day later, she earned the victory against Houston-Victoria with a four-hitter and five strikeouts.

Winners of nine of its last ten games, Saint Xavier is 13-4 overall.
