SXU's Pennala, Daniels, VU's Dugan Return To Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards Stand

CHICAGO --- Familiar names dotted the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball awards list for Week 6, which covered the seven-day period between March 10-16.  Returning to the honors stand were Saint Xavier University's Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif.) and Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb.) and Viterbo University's Max Dugan (Stoughton, Wis.) on Wednesday.

Daniels captured his fourth CCAC Setter of the Week award after averaging 10.3 assists per set in a pair of 3-0 wins over St. Ambrose University (Iowa) and Clarke University (Iowa) on Saturday at the SAU Tri-Match.  He also registered eight aces, 11 digs and two blocks over the six sets.

In the victory over St. Ambrose, the sophomore turned in 26 assists, five aces, five digs and two blocks.  Later that day, he totaled 36 assists (12.0 average), six digs and three aces versus Clarke.

Pennala, meanwhile, accrued his second CCAC Attacker of the Week award after authoring a stellar .625 hitting percentage with 21 kills and only one error in 32 chances.  That averaged out to 5.3 kills per set among the four sets he appeared in.

The senior outside hitter's biggest match came against St. Ambrose, where he totaled 18 kills (6.0 avg.) with a .654 attacking clip.  He also provided three blocks, two digs and one ace. 

The No. 2-ranked Cougars remain unbeaten on the season at 16-0 overall, including 6-0 in league contests.

Dugan also earned his second CCAC Defender of the Week recognition.  The sophomore defensive specialist was perfect on 72 receptions and averaged 3.9 digs per set over his three matches played.  He totaled no less than 12 digs and 22 receptions for each of the three contests.

Dugan's top reception game was his 28 in a three-set loss to Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday.  He also provided 22 passes in a four-set victory over Aquinas College (Mich.) on Thursday and a three-set loss to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday.

In those same outings, Dugan had 14 digs versus UW-Stevens Point, 13 against Aquinas and 12 opposite Olivet Nazarene.

Viterbo is 3-19 overall and still seeking its first win in league play (0-4).
