CHICAGO --- Saint Xavier University has swept the first round of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's outdoor track & field weekly honors, the league office announced on Wednesday. Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill.) was recognized as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill.) secured Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
Franklin created his award-winning resume with one first-place finish and a pair of second-place efforts. He won the 100-meter dash at the St. Louis University (Mo.) Billikin Invite, defeating 38 other competitors with his time of 10.68 seconds.
The senior then used a school record time and NAIA "B" standard mark of 14.32 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to place second. He also teamed up with three other Cougars for a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Their time was 41.87 seconds.
Arokoyo claimed a top finish, as well, among 28 challengers at the Billikin Invite with his 54.23-meter (177 foot, 11 inch) throw in the discus. That "A" standard distance is the third-best mark in the NAIA this spring.
The senior added a fourth-place showing in the shot put with his throw of 15.39 meters (50 feet, 6 inches).
Other Track Nominees: David Olmos (Olivet Nazarene), Michael Reif (St. Francis).
