VU's Jaenke, JU's Deal Earn Baseball Weekly Recognition
CHICAGO --- A complete-game performance by Viterbo University's Brandon Jaenke (Fall Creek, Wis.) and power numbers from Judson University's Hudson Deal (Port Washington, Wis.) led the pair to earning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball weekly honors for the seven-day period ending March 30. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
Jaenke was recognized as the CCAC Pitcher of the Week after claiming a 3-1 win over St. Ambrose University on Thursday. The senior right-hander struck out nine batters against two walks in his seven innings of work. He also permitted just four hits and the one run, which was earned.
Jaenke notched the only win on the week for Viterbo, which is now 14-13 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
Deal accrued CCAC Player of the Week accolades after collecting seven extra-base hits among his ten total for a 1.278 slugging percentage and .556 batting average (10-for-18). He delivered four doubles and three home runs to drive in ten runs. He also walked five times for a .667 on-base mark.
Defensively, the junior shortstop handled all 20 of his chances without an error.
Deal hit safely in five of the six games in which he appeared last week with four multi-hit contests. His top performance closed out the week, where he went 3-for-4 with one double, two home runs, four runs batted in and another four scored in a 17-16 victory over Olivet Nazarene University on Friday.
Deal opened the week going 4-for-6 (two hits in each game) with two doubles and four RBIs in a two-game sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph last Tuesday. His other two-hit contest came in the first game of Saturday's twinbill, where he homered and drove in two runs.
