Schwartz, Nery Sweep Baseball Weekly Honors For Judson

CHICAGO --- A nearly-perfect seven-day stretch for Judson University has led to two of its top performers during the 5-1 week claiming a sweep of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly baseball awards.  Honored on Tuesday by the league office were infielder Kyle Schwartz (Benoni, South Africa) and pitcher Adrian Nery (Barrington, Ill.).

Schwartz was named the CCAC Player of the Week after hitting .593 (16-for-27) over the seven-day period with hits in all six of his games played, including multiple hits in five contests.  He also registered 12 runs, another four driven in and five stolen bases.

The sophomore could not have started off the week any better, going 6-for-6 in the first game of a doubleheader versus Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) last Monday.  For the two games combined, he went 8-for-10 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Schwartz also had a big day on Saturday in a two-game sweep of University of California Clermont.  There, he went 5-for-9 with one triple, five runs scored and three RBIs.

The CCAC Pitcher of the Week, Nery claimed two of the Eagles' five wins on the mound for the week, both of which were complete-game efforts.  He also allowed just one earned run, leading to a 0.56 earned run average to go along with a 0.81 WHIP.  The senior allowed just 11 hits in his 16 innings of work.

Nery's top game came on Sunday when he delivered a 3-0 shutout over UC Clermont.  In that showing, he permitted just three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in going the nine-inning distance.

Prior to that, Nery defeated Culver-Stockton 9-1 on Monday in a seven-inning contest.  He struck out two batters that day against no walks and eight hits.

For the season, Judson is 6-4 overall.
