Women's Soccer Weekly Awards Go To GSU's McLaughlin, TCC's Urribarri
CHICAGO --- A six-point week from Governors State University's Grace McLaughlin (New Lenox, Ill.) and a pair of shutouts by Trinity Christian College's Michelle Urribarri (Orlando, Fla.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week accord, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
McLaughlin gained the plaudits on the offensive side of the ball courtesy of two goals and a pair of assists in the Jaguars' first two wins of the season last week. The graduate midfielder accounted for three of the team's four goals in a 4-1 win over Knox College with her one tally and two assists on Friday. She added another goal in a 3-1 victory opposite Mount Mercy University (Iowa) on Sunday.
The six-point week was a career high for McLaughlin and helped Governors State double its win count from one year ago when the Jaguars totaled just one victory. They are 2-2 on the campaign with the two wins this past week being the first under new head coach Alberto Magana.
Urribarri authored her second and third shutouts of the season to claim CCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The junior goalkeeper had one save in a 2-0 nod over Cornerstone University (Mich.) last Tuesday before stopping five shots in a 0-0 draw with Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) on Friday.
Urribarri's efforts kept the Trolls unbeaten at 2-0-3 on the season.
