Monster Week For RU's Ogawa, 10-K Game For CCSJ's Nowak Garner Garner Accolades

CHICAGO --- A week unheard of by Roosevelt University's Kekoa Ogawa (Pahoa, Hawaii) and a ten-strikeout, complete-game effort from Calumet College of St. Joseph's Bobby Nowak (Cedar Lake, Ind.) have earned the pair the final Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball weekly awards for 2024, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Ogawa was a unanimous pick as the CCAC Player of the Week after hitting .643 with a 1.107 slugging percentage.  He authored both 18 hits and 18 runs batted in in just six games, or an average of three each per contest in the Lakers' perfect 6-0 week ending April 28.

The junior third baseman/pitcher's 1.107 slugging percentage was crafted by his four doubles and three home runs.  He also stole five bases, including three in one game, and scored ten runs.

Ogawa had three games where he registered four hits and another one with three hits as part of a five multi-hit week.  He drove in at least a pair of runs in five of the six games, as well.

Ogawa homered in back-to-back games against Judson University to open the week last Tuesday, where he went 7-for-9 with five runs batted in.  In the weekend series against Indiana University South Bend, he both started and ended the series with four-hit games and drove in 13 runs over the four contests.

If that was not enough, Ogawa also registered a win and a save on the mound in the two contests that he pitched in, recording five strikeouts over the five innings that he worked.

Roosevelt's perfect week led the Lakers to securing the No. 2 seed in this week's CCAC Tournament.  They went 19-13 in league play and are 28-20 overall.

Nowak's complete-game effort on Thursday earned him CCAC Pitcher of the Week accord.  In the 6-2 victory over Judson, he did not allow an earned run and scattered five hits.  He also did not allow a walk opposite the ten strikeouts.

Calumet St. Joseph went 4-2 on the week to finish 21-29 overall and 14-18 against league competition.

Other Player Nominees: Tommy Benson (Calumet St. Joseph), Timothy Ellinger (Judson), Jake Klepacz (St. Francis), Preston Moore (Trinity Christian), Evan Orzech (Saint Xavier).
